In dash 3 disc CD changer will not play

Have an '01 C70 Convertible. Acquired at auction. Runs great. The in dash 3 disc CD changer will not play. Whether I have one or three discs inserted, the player seems unable to recognize that any discs are in the player. It will whirl and gurgle, partially ejected the cartridge only to draw this back in and repeat the listed function. Any solutions to my problem?
