heater blower removal
heater blower removal
I have a 1991 740 Turbo with 260,000 miles. The heater blower needs to be replaced and I cannot remove the fuel ECU short of using a crowbar. I've taken out the two exposed screws and the unit won't budge. What is the secret to getting it off so I can then get to the bracket. Thanks for your help.
I just replaced the heater blower motor on my 1996 940 Turbo, and I found it had a metal retention strap that no one mentioned.
Do you have a metal piece that goes over the computer and the harness connector, and on top of the ECU (read; left side or side closest to a passenger's feet) there is a 'head-less' screw or bolt that secures it?
This is a shear bolt, it had a head and once tightened to a specific torque setting the head shears off. I found I had to cut that bolt and then the ECU and ECU bracket came without a problem.
BE VERY CAREFUL! However you cut, with a metal saw or grinding tool, you can't damage the ECU or the wires around it.
Did this help?

Thanks for your reply but I have not found any shear bolt either top or bottom.
Yes there is a bracket that goes over the computer and it has a lip on it as if it should slide off from the front once the two visible screws are removed. Any other thoughts?
