That's what I thought at first, but most of the time (~75%) it's okay.. Over that, it either works or doesn't work and other than the one exception when I was at the car wash, there's no in between.

From reading about some other people's experiences, just cleaning the TPS gave them a temporary fix, but the initial problems with the "idle hunting" returned.

Before spending lots of money on a harness, try a new or certified used TPS first; it's a lot cheaper. Also, check your vacuum lines and MAF (mass airflow sensor) as Matthew suggested.

You may not get an error code until the TPS finally fails or becomes less than marginal. I didn't get the code for the TPS until the "idle hunting" got really bad.
Well, I am an amateur mechanic after all, so I misidentified the throttle position sensor. I confused it with another electrical connection slightly higher off of the ground which is a metal cylinder 4 cm in diameter and 8 cm long with some rubber hoses attached to it. What part is that? Anyway, I've sprayed and cleaned the electrical contact with the TPS and now I'm idling better. If it gets rough again, I'll buy the $50 part.
