Cool air intake a possible way to gain horses?

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Here's how I did my cold air intake mod.

I got the idea from this cold air intake modification.

There will be differences because yours is a P2 car, but the fundamentals are the same.

It's been 2+ years and I haven't noticed any downsides. I used the stock airbox w/ a K&N panel filter, merely improving the airflow to it. I'm a believer that the open filter type setups pull too much warm air from under the hood. I can't prove it, it's just my preference based on theory.

If you're in Denver contact me and I'll be happy to help install yours. :)

I was reading on how to do it and it's definetely cheap and sounds effective. Would you recomend it others? And how well does it work? I'm just afraid that eventually it's gonna rip.

Yea, I'd recommend it. As long as you're aware of it. Don't fjord rivers, do watch the snow buildup, etc.

Mine tore once in 2.5 years. Duct tape applied, fixed. And if it does tear, you're pulling air in from under the car/inside wheelwell area (not a problem), or from near the airbox, which like I said is no worse than some cone filters anyway.

Being able to pop a hole in the tubing with no tools is a good thing if you do need to fjord a river. Just punch a hole with your finger and tape it later. Couldn't be simpler. I did that very thing about 5 weeks ago when we got all that snow, and the intake was certain to get clogged with snow.

Does it help hp? I think so. My pants tell me it helps more the faster I go... ram air effect.

It's dead simple, just dryer ducting and tape. Unattaching would take 3 minutes. Putting back the stock air intake pieces would take another 3 minutes. It's very reversible.

i dont see how you get more outside heat with the shild gaurd and the foam up put around it,it mounts pretty tight ot the hood and the cold air comes right in like the factory hole in the stock box does,so i see were you cant go wrong, but get better.imo.and this has been my observatiob also.and i do see more throttle resonce and better full milage, and seems to climb faster in the rpm range also...try it,it is a good produst, just read the reviews.

Really though, the stock airbox flows just as well as any aftermarket intake and keeps temperatures down. IPD even has a video on their site showing differences in temperatures of the stock box and their cone filter and stock was several degrees cooler than their own setup. Is the IPD intake detrimental to performance? Probably not, but you won't see any significant increase either.

Also, ram air is mostly a myth.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade. I have IPD's intake on my own car. It's a nice piece and it sounds good but that's pretty much where it stops.
