HU-650 radio possessed

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

HU-650 radio possessed

Post by floydea »

Hello everyone - I'm new to the forum and hope someone can help. My wife has a 2005 S80 with the HU-650 radio. Recently it has started cycling between AM-FM & CD on it's own and we are at a loss as to why. I searched the forum and only found a posting in the S60 side where it was suggested that the battery be checked. Her battery is less than a year old - I understand it could still be bad - I'll check that out. Till then, are there any other suggestions?

Thanks

The battery on ours checked out fine and (knock on wood) the radio hasn't acted up in about a week now. Speaking with local Volvo mechanics they say that it's the radio itself and not a larger electrical problem.

So radios just go bazerk on its own......ouch......Volvo strategic engineering, now you have to buy a new radio.....its always something and its always 500 plus dollars.

Same here - I bought my 2006 S-60 with HU-650 used (about 70,000 miles) and it always had a ghost that played with the volume - not that often, but obviously wrong. I added a XM radio and that works fine, up until a month ago. Now the evil spirit rolls through the AM/FM/CD sometimes - can't pin it to anything I'm doing. I just set the 3 FM stations to the frequency I need for the satellite, and I have a 3 out of 6 chance that when it rolls, it will settle on a channel I can use. (yeah, and 11 out of 10 times, toast lands jelly-side-down!)

Glad to hear I'm not alone - anyone try replacing the 650 with a replacement?
