2000 S80 T6 OBDII Codes... P1332, P0756, P1618

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 S80 T6 OBDII Codes... P1332, P0756, P1618

Post by Canadian731 »

So I am new here, first time owning a Volvo, I got this one about a week ago. When I got it, it had a check engine light on and a Transmission Service Urgent message on. I scanned it with a OBDII today and I just need some help from some old time volvo owners and or techies. These are the codes I pulled up when I scanned it.

P1332 CVVT Solenoid

P0756 Shift Solenoid B Performance or stuck off - I read this is a error code from the 2nd - 3rd shift solenoid

P1618 Fault in lead between AW 50-52 and Motronic 4.3 (Mil requested)

Recently today, I drove it around to see if the codes would come up again after I reset them, after maybe 2 minutes I got another code, not too sure about this one either.

P0303 Cylinder 3 misfire detected

Any help is welcome and I am thankful for it, I dont feel like taking it into Volvo and paying a rediculous amount for shop fees. I am a 1st year apprentice Mechanic and feel that I can personally take on most stuff. And if not I have more resources to help me. Any help is welcome!

Maybe a plug. When were they last changed? i.e. if you have records from previous owner. Or a coil?
So the other, transmission, codes never came back?

If the transmission codes are valid, I think no matter what you are looking like having to tear into the transmission to replace the solenoid(s) and possibly do wire repairs.
Swap the coils on cylinders 3 and 5. Reset the OBD codes. If the misfire code comes back and moves to cyl #5, replace the coil. Plugs do need to be fresh as pointed out.
CVVT P1332 can be bad wiring, incorrect oil, clogged oil passages to the solenoid, gunked up solenoid iteself or timing is off slightly.

Do you have any service records?

Sadly no the car did not come with any service information other then the woman who had it before me telling me that she had it serviced at a Volvo dealership at regular intervals. That's about it sadly

Gonna try and check the plugs and coils today, the only problem is I'm not quite sure how to get at them. Seems like a lot more stuff in the way compared to other cars lol. Will report back as soon as I am done trying that out

Couldn't get to the plugs, turbo charger is in the way and it looks like who ever took them off last time cracked the pipe at the end. Not gonna attempt it with the time frame I have today. I will have to look on the web for more info, anyone ever use Shop key for repairs? I use it at work for quoting and such but not repairs.

You have to remove the black plastic double pipe that goes across the top of the motor (from front to rear) from the turbos to the intercooler. Three hose clamps and a 7mm socket. Then remove the torx screws for the plastic "VOLVO" cover that covers the spark plugs. Once you remove that you will see the coils.
The plugs arent near the turbos though.

Here is the VADIS illustrated version. But boosted5cyl seems to have covered it nicely.

So I pulled and changed the ignition coil in cylinder 3 which fixed my code for a Cylinder 3 misfire, now my problem is that I had the plugs changed aswell. drove maybe 10km and now cylinder #2 is misfiring, I have no idea what could have caused this problem as I never had a code come up for it before today when I replaced the #3 coil and all of the spark plugs.
Anyone have any ideas?
