Which one to buy???

Post by shawndavis721 »

I am new on here and I am looking to buy a Volvo wagon.I am considering either a 1997 850r or a 2000 V70 awd. I really like the idea of the AWD rather than the front wheel drive 850r but I am finding a lot of comments about reliability issues with the V70. I would like some opinions on which one to get and why. Would really love a mid-60s wagon but those are so hard to find for the right condition and price.

Thank you.

Not knowing the condition or mileage of either car and considering them to have equal wear, I would suggest the 1997 R

If you have no use for a AWD then anything up to 1998 in good shape is safe or safer bet. The FWD is much simpler to work on from I've been reading.

Buy whichever's in better shape and has been maintained better (look for records!!!). Many, many "R"s have been beat to death and are in BAD shape when they're up for sale...people drive them like toolbags.

With the AWD, you can always drop out the driveshaft and have a perfectly functioning FWD car.

I vote for the '98 R but Justin has a great point.
