Neutral Control Problem, Transmission Killer?

Post by Yehuda »

I have an S60 2001 2.4L Non-turbo AW55 Automatic-transmission.

i have always knew that there is a problem in this car transmission, the problem is that when i stop my car at a traffic light and press the brake the car shift to N, when i release the brake the car shift to D, when the engine is warm the shifts are hard and you can feel a bump.

to bypass this nature, i use the handbrake when i stop the car on traffic light etc, it's annoying, but i prefer that instead of the BUMPS.

i heard that there is a SW upgrade that disable this thing, does someone knows what's the software part #, or just to go for the latest transmission SW update?

You should have had the software updated a long time ago, do it now.
Yes, a real transmission killer, how many miles on your car?
Fluid change, software upgrade, reset transmission adaptions, new drive cycle

For the less savvy, like myself, could you please elaborate on what it means to reset trans adaptions and new drive cycle?
Thanks!!

74,564 miles on mine

from what i know the car learns your driving habits & shifts according to it and to the transmission fluid age.
so after a fluid change & updated Software, you need to let the car relearn, also reset the tranny fluid counter

after the engine is warm, the bumps are really hard, also the transmission service required is on.

i'm waiting for DICE i ordered from china, to see error codes, the universal OBD2 doesn't gives much info.

i heard that the DICE can tell death transmission codes, anyone has a clue which particular codes to look for?

i asked the dealer to change the tranny fluid, he said it's not recommend it for this mileage if haven't been done before, they said it could do more harm to the tranny.

i did it anyway, but he only replaced 4 liters (told it will do damage to replace the whole fluid) they didn't used the 3309, so i'll now need to change whole fluid to 3309

Do drain/fill only, do NOT machine flush -- by any means.
The adapt and rellearn drive cycle requires activation with VIDA, and is only accessible with the latest TCM s/w that includes the Advanced Test Mode.

The stealership updated your TCM s/w when you had fluid done, yes?
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

CORRECT but the adaptions need to be reset

after the engine is warm, the bumps are really hard, also the transmission service required is on.

NOT GOOD AT ALL

i'm waiting for DICE i ordered from china, to see error codes, the universal OBD2 doesn't gives much info.

IT WON'T

i asked the dealer to change the tranny fluid, he said it's not recommend it for this mileage if haven't been done before, they said it could do more harm to the tranny.

YES AND NO. YOU THEN DO MULTIPLE DRAIN AND FILLS, YOU NEED THE EQUIVILENT OF A FULL FLUSH, AT LEAST 12 QUARTS, MAYBE MORE TO GET ALL THE OLD FLUID OUT. I HAVE FOUND THAT ONE DRIAN AND FILL DOESN'T DO VERY MUCH. YOU REPEAT THIS PROCESS UNTIL IT'S CLEAN

i did it anyway, but he only replaced 4 liters (told it will do damage to replace the whole fluid) they didn't used the 3309, so i'll now need to change whole fluid to 3309.

IF THE CAR TAKES 3309 AND 3309 ONLY, WHY WOULD THE DEALER USE ANOTHER FLUID? NOT GOOD AT ALL, GET ALL OF IT OUT NOW

Thanks for the fast replies.

the stealer didn't done the TCM SW, nor told me about it.

when i asked for fluid change, he said he have a volvo genuine fluid and a volvo replacement that is also "Good" (LIE), i went with the replacement.

he filled in the worst fluid, made by american eagle (don't know if US markets even sell them). just saw the empty bottles after that, i was    & argued about paying for this fluid, i paid $185 instead of $240 (i also replaced axle bumper or something)

i have ordered the B4 servo cover, so i'll wait for their arrive, then i'll go for all the procedures

By far, AVLube sell the 3309 fluid at the best price on a case of 12 quarts, which is $65.76 here in US http://avlube.com/mobilatf3309.html
I hope you'll find your best option to buy Mobil ATF 3309 in Israel. You can also inquire with any local Toyota Dealer, they use the same ATF 3309 fluid under the name T-IV
