1985 740GLE Trailer plug wiring?

Post by Juzm »

Hi all,

I've just purchased a 1985 740GLE that seems to be in pretty good condition.
It has a tow bar on it but the wiring to a plug has never been completed.
The wires seem to be there near the tow bar under the car but they have been taped up and never fitted to a plug.

I have purchased the female part of the plug off ebay but I have no idea how to wire it up and I can not seem to find any help on the internet on how to do so.

Can anyone here help me out with details on how to wire it up or a wiring diagram for the plug?

Thanks in advance,
Justin.

If this is for the lights on the trailer as opposed to running items like a fridge you should have seven wires:

Pin 1 Yellow (left indicator)
Pin 2 Blue (rear fog lights)
Pin 3 White (earth)
Pin 4 Green (right indicator)
Pin 5 Brown (right side and number plate lights)
Pin 6 Red (brake lights)
Pin 7 Black (left side lights)

Thanks Bill,

I appreciate your help.

I found this last night, so I hope all the wires are colour coded correctly underneath the elec tape.

It's just for a motorcycle trailer, no fridge required. :)

Would fit well in the boot/trunk of a 740.

No trailer, no problem. One bulb, one bulb holder with two bits of wire attached, one pushed into the 3 terminal, one assistant to operate the switches and you just move the other wire to where you want it.
