Fuel capacity, flap won't lock

Post by jbourke »

Happy New Year to you all,

For my 2001 V70 2.0T the fuel tank capacity is said to be 80 liters. But when I filled her up the other day after having the warning light on for a bit it takes only 55 litres ... rather a large reserve :-) Would the fuel gauge be that much off?

Also The fuel door won't lock. Is this just a matter of lubricating the pin or are there other things to be checked?

Thanks in advance for your expert replies,

John

I believe 80 liters is for sedans, 70 liters for wagons...

JB,
How many miles did the computer tell you had left? This could account for 12 L or so. Then the next thing I would do is take a peek under the car to see if perhaps the fuel tank has been collapsed due to hitting something (would be hard to do but not impossible) or by a clogged vent.

Just an update to the 2 problems: still haven't been able to put more than 55 liters in the tank, mystery unresolved. The fuel door not locking turned out to be stripped teeth of the gears in the locking unit. Rather than getting a new unit with the same inherent design problem (steel on plastic gears) I changed the gears to Lego Technic gears :-) Not an exact fit as I had to remove a small amount of material from the housing but very satisfying nontheless. Besides a bit more noise when operating it works perfectly. BTW when testing don't forget the 10 minute delay between using the remote and the fuel door actually locking.

Cheers,

John
