Great Photo. It seems to capture the essence of Russian existence as written by many novelists and playwrights.
When I was in high school I read a Solzhenitsyn novel called One Day In the Life of Ivan Denisovich. I vaguely remember imprisonment, eating potatoes and freezing your butt off being the most memorable aspects of the book. I think it was only 130 pages.
Themes were there but the biggest impression it made was the struggle between sanity and insanity while being opressed and treated like scum.
Strangely the whole Russian novel genre didn't appeal to me after this book. He was a brilliant man who made the suffering of Russians known worldwide and received a Nobel Peace Prize for Literature.
