Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

99 s80 t6 ETM issue

Post by svspeeder »

Hello, I am a returning member to this site. It has very helpfull post. Bought a 99 s80 t6 and did some work on it. I changed the timinh belt and drove it around and all was fine. I also droped the oil pan to install a gasket on it. To my surprise, the oil pan had no gasket, Just metal to metal. Is that something volvo do to all their cars? I also chaged out the pcv system without taking off the intake manifold. I washed the front part of the engine seing it was very greasy. When all was put back together and i started the car, it ran very roughly, sound allmost loke a big vacume hose was missing. Allso when i floor the accelrator, the rpm only go up to 2000 rpm. I did disconnect the connector for the ETM and found it had oil in it. maybe from the enging wash.would the oil or maybe water cause the ETM to go bad upon start up? If it was a vacume leak or anything else, I guesting i would still get accellaration, just rough, but it does nothing. I dont eaven get a check enging light. I want to buy a ETM from Exmodex but i want to make sure its the ETM. Can i buy a used one in the mean time just to see if ist the ETM. any idea of the problem and any solution will be greatly appreciated

volvo uses liquid gaskets - you can find the official volvo stuff on IPD

it sounds like you have one of the PCV hoses either disconnected or going to the wrong place leading to oil being sucked through the intake manifold. Id check that they are all hooked up correctly then clean the ETM, they usually cause problems when they are dirty
