Timing belt double lines...

Working on my 91 240 with the B230 engine. I can't seem to get the double lines to match up when I rotate the engine by hand and I look at the crank notch...When I removed the old timing belt I had such a time removing the cam and intermediate pulley bolts that I'm sure they moved a little each way....So, I decided to line up the pulley notches at 12 on the cam....more like 11:55 and 3 thee oclock on the intermediat and then 12 on the crank but I can't seem to get the crank double lines perfect...they are always one notch off...

What am I doing wrong? I don't want to start it till I know its perfect. Is there a method to this madness? BTW the Haynes manual I spent money on is absolute garbage.....I'm gonna have to get the Bently, its gotta be better than this haynes.

I think you need to line up the crank sprocket with that long vertical line on the front cover. The other marks look okay to me.

I see. So I must install the plastic lower cover and line up the notch in the crank sprocket with the long line in the cover? O.K...I can probably manage that....I've gone this far. Thanks.

Nope. Not the plastic cover. The aluminum cover that holds the seals. To the left of the big "V" in Volvo you will see a line running from the centerline of the crankshaft. Align the keyway groove in the crankshaft with this line.

Your correct.....I found out earlier today and its all done. Started right up...
