One Day Full Oil, Then Next No Oil

Saturday morning topped off Oil, it need two quarts. Then Sunday night my son calls and says the oil light it on, adn he saw some oil on the ground.

What to do?

2 quarts? That's really excessive. You should not drive this car anymore until you can locate the leak.

Need more specific info. Type of car, turbo /non etc. Jack the car up and get dirty. You should be able to see a hole that leaks 2 qtrs / day!!!!

1994 850, with about 20,000 miles on rebuilt engine. The car was overheating until I fixed the fan. Now the temp. is OK.

turbo or non turbo?

Is there oil in the coolant?

A leak that large should be obvious from underneath.

non turbo.

Filled it with cheap oil. No leak. Turned it on. And a flood came out from under the area where the radiator is.

What is in this area that would blow oil everywhere when turned on?

Did you open the hood?

Under the radiator is too broad of an area.

I got it up in the air. It seems to be coming from around the oil filter

I had this happen once with a Honda I owned. Once I took the oil filter off I found a second rubber gasket from the old filter still stuck up in the area. It had come loose from the filter I had taken out and discarded. Check to make sure this isn't the case with yours. You'll only loose about a quart of oil taking the oil filter out. Also, use a Mann or OEM equivalent filter (in case you aren't already)...they are better as they have a check valve in them.

thank you all for your help. I didnet even have a jack or jackstands when I started on this problem Monday morning.

So I bought myself some equiptment, put the car up in the air, took off the shroud under the radiator, filled it with oil, turned on the car and oil came flowing out around the oil filter.

WHen I unscrewed the filter I noticed it was not coming out straight. So when I finally got it out I could see it had been bent and obviously broke the seal.

So ran back out to autozone, got a filter, filled with fresh oil and perfecto.

I thank all who tried to help this toolless newbie.

I will now try to figure out the next issue.

I suggest you go to fcpgroton.com and order yourself some Mann oil filters. If it were me I'd change out the filter you just put on as well as the "cheap oil" you filled it with to test.

You were very lucky you didn't run out of oil and sieze the engine.
