Called Volvo today trying to verify the part number for this actuator motor. They insist that the car has a fully mechanical climate control system with no actuator motors unless it is an automatic climate system (fan switch would have an AUTO position). I have the damn thing in my hand, don't tell me the car doesn't have any! The part number for the auto climate system damper motor is 914629. Can anyone verify that this part number is the same for our 94 850 with MANUAL climate control recirculation damper motor?
thanks for all the help so far!

It's referred to as the recirculation motor. It switches between fresh air and recirculation. And the car does indeed have a motor. My car uses the fully manual climate control and I'm having the same problem.
The fancy-pants cars like my old 960 have an additional motor that will control a flapper to send air where ever the automated climate control thinks it needs to go.

VADIS shows it as part number 6849557.

Your cheapest route will be a local salvage yard, beyond that you can call Erievovo, they have a link at the top of the page.

I realize this is an old thread, but I figured I would share my experience in case someone might benefit from it.
I have a 1994 volvo 850 wagon which would make a clicking noise from behind the glove box anytime the fan was NOT on recirculation mode. However, the damper was not closed; air was always coming through the vents. I removed the glove box and saw that the plastic linkage had come off of the damper motor drive shaft. After reading this thread, I thought that I would probably have to replace the motor (due to broken teeth on the gears), but after reconnecting the top of the plastic lever to the motor drive shaft (as well as the bottom of the lever to the linkage to the damper), everything worked fine. It seems that the tension caused by the linkage "enables" the limit switch to work properly. Very simple fix. Took me 10 minutes. We'll see how long it stays connected...
There is a good diagram here:

The damper motor is #22 and the lever that I had to reattach is #14

This site is just amazing. When my 94 850 MCC started clicking the other day...just out of the blue all of a sudden...I was dumbfounded. A two minute search found this thread. Just Amazing! Thanks to EVERYBODY who posted here, I am relieved that I won't have to listed to that infernal CLICK, CLICK, CLICK for the rest of my life. I'll post again after I fix mine with any pertinent info.

Sorry, the motor is actually #12. My fix didn't last long. I do need to replace the motor. Still a simple fix, but the motor is a bit pricey...voodooshoe wrote:I realize this is an old thread, but I figured I would share my experience in case someone might benefit from it.

When I made the odometer repair routine on my 850 today I noticed the damper with connecting arm just hanging out all alone. Someone has already removed this wonderful control motor thing. My car seems to heat and cool just fine so do I really need this malfunctioning bit of over-engineering? let me know what you think. Thanks.
