Passenger side low beam failure

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Passenger side low beam failure

Post by Mark27 »

Hello All,
My passenger side low beam will not work. The high beam and parking lights are fine, just the low beam. Fuse inside car is fine, as well as driver side low beam. What in the work could it be wrong since the fuse inside the vehicle seems ok. By the way I have a 03 S80 T6

Have you swapped the bulbs side to side to see if it is just a filament?

Do you have a volt meter to check voltages at the plug. Perhaps there is ground wire issue. When checking the voltage at the plug use another ground when checking the hot wires to eliminate the plug and use the ground to touch the battery + cable to see if you have voltage.

Hey BKM,
your first response was correct, it was the bulb. The auto parts store were I purchased the so called "new" bulb sold me a defective bulb. I discovered it was defective when I checked the engine fuse compartment and saw that both the left and right fuses were fine. I then switched the bulb from the right side to the left and bingo, it worked. On another note this problem occurred before, about 3 years ago (prior to joining MVS and becoming a DIY'er). The mechanic at the time told me "it was a short in the line" and charged me $65. All he did was switch out a bad fuse for a good one. I am so glad I discovered this site and took the initiative to do it myself!!!

Great news that it was something simple!

I've got these in my S70 and two sets on two friends Odysseys and 2 sets in my cousins cars. I believe Volvo uses the H7 for both hi and low beam

Purchase all from this seller. Bid right before it ends and you'll get it at the $8.99 price. Friend purchased a set of Sylvania Silver Star at $40 or so from O'Reilly's two months ago and one is already out so he ordered these and it arrived in 3 days. I've used this brand for quite a few years through Ebay and not always this seller but he is by far the cheapest. I have also used the manufacturer's Lifetime Warranty twice and a new set comes just like you see on Ebay.

White and a bit Brighter than OE Halogen not blue like his website but a very good bulbs.
