Leather coming up.

Post by wolf »

I have a 1999 S70 and i noticed that on both the left window arm rest and right window armrest (where the window switch is), the leather has started to lift up. The wierd thing is, people in my car rarely put there arm up there so it seems to just be doing this by itself, and the leather itself is in good condition, but its just kind of lifting up. Does anyone have any sort of remedy for this? If you dont understand what i mean, I can take a photo.

thanks,

josh

Common problem. If you look at most any S70 you will see the material lifting in that area. No real good fix unless you want to spend some money.

when you say "No real good fix unless you want to spend some money." do you mean a lot of money?

Depends on your definition of "a lot". The two fixes are either new door panels or having an auto upholstery shop fit new material into the panel. Either way I would estimate $500 - $600 for the two panels.

you can get used panels from a junkyard for around 250 bucks.

That would be a 850 door panel, not a 70 series door panel.

Unless your 1999 S70 is different from my 1999 S70 the outboard armrests are not covered in leather. To say it is vinyl is being kind. It really doesn't look all that bad but it is not leather. I have used Automotive Gunk in previous cars to fix this sort of problem. It worked perfectly. I tried to use it when the car had been out in the sun and the interior was warm. ie: the covering was slightly stretchy and could be properly fitted to the area.
