I wouldn't totally dismiss New England cars altogether. I do see a lot of 850's and first generation S/V cars around here that don't have rust. They may have dings and scratches but not much rust. This may be different in Northern New England, I don't know. Also, Volvo historically sold a lot of cars in this area, so the selection is still better than in other parts of the country.JRL wrote: What you may want to probably avoid are New England cars, THOSE are the ones that have cosmetic issues.
In the end it all depends on how the cars were cared for. The bodies were well prepared from the factory with galvanized body panels. The ones that do rust have had damage to the sheetmetal and then were poorly repaired and or neglegted. My 850 is 15 years old and has NO rust, even though it sees quite a bit of salt on NYC roads.
