S70 T5 bad gas mileage

Post by SHAKAMAMBUTU89 »

I have a S70 T5 and the car's gas mileage is pretty bad. There is quiet a bit of vibration coming from the steering wheel which is due to the engine vibrating more than its supposed to. Also when the car is driving, the sound of the car isn't one flat gradual sound but instead its this bubbly sound. The car has no pick up and go power as a T5 is supposed to have. Its gone pretty lazy.

I also noticed another problem which is that there is weird milky things all over the dipstick. Number one: I am not loosing Coolant. I have had the Car for over 2 months and I am sure that if I was loosing Coolant then I would have had to fill it a few times by now. Number two: The car never ever overheats ever since I got it. What can the problem be???

Another thing. the rear left door opens from outside but not from inside. How do I fix that?

Thanks :)

Is the Check Engine Light on? Rough running could be anything from bad ignition components to a burned valve. As far as the door stuff -- junkyard parts and replace is the method I've used with some success.

Please define "pretty bad", what is the actual mileage, city/highway? As for preformance, when was the last time the car had new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, filters, etc...

Thankfully the car is driving a bit better after changing the spark plugs. I hear this weird light clicking noise which I think is because I have to put more oil in the engine. What oil should I use for my T5???

Does anyone have any Idea as to why there is vibrations in my car?

First of all, you may have more problems than just the spark plugs. Possibly the plug wires or even the distributor cap and rotor need to be replaced.

The shaking that you mention sounds like a typical cracked distributor cap or bad plug wires, than a bad mount since it is also affecting gas mileage.

when doing a tune up, you should replace the spark plugs (Volvo Plugs highly recommended!), plug wires, distibutor cap, rotor. That should solve any misfire issues. The check engine light should be on if the car is running that bad.

Let us know if the check engine light is on.

Also, You need to use 91 octane gas. Not regular 87. As far as oil in concerned, anything that is synthetic and 5w30 would be best for where you live.

The milky stuff on the dipstick is usually just condensation. As long as the oil itself looks clear, and you are not losing coolant,
it is not a serious issue. The presence of this condensation may indicate that the car is in need of the dreaded PCV system cleaning.
