Recently I believe my stock amplifier hit the bucket. every time i put a fuse in it pops and smells like toasted electronics. think i might have a short somewhere.
How difficult is it to remove? I was thinking about going out to the junkyard and seeing if i can find one.
850 amplifier toast?

Which fuse is blowing? #7?
That provides both the amp and the HU with constant power.
Are there any extra or non stock speakers hooked up?
If you have an SC-815, you could just bypass the amp and run your speakers off of the
internal amp power in the SC-815 to check it out. If it works like that, amp's fried.
If your car is still stock, there are some foam wrapped connecters behind the radio.
One set is the car harness that plugs into the HU if you haven't got the amp.
It's totally plug and play troubleshooting.
There's more info about the optional external amp cabling in this post:
