AM Radio - poor reception

Post by cackle61 »

Hi,

I have a 2001 S60 that I bought in September last year.Since purchasing its AM radio reception has been very poor. In strong signal areas, it still reproduces a lot of noise and interference. I suspect (hoping, actually) that the antenna input has pulled out.

I've tried accessing the radio using the instruction from this site by dismantling the centre console. Unfortunately I got stuck at the step of removing the climate control panel. It simply wouldn't pull clear. The instruction says that it will take some effort, but I don't know how much I should pull. I don't want to cause any irreparable damage.

Any clues?

Thanks

Al

My wife's 2005 S80 has had the same problem since we bought it (used) 4 years ago. i recall reading about this problem which is apparently common. I don't recall where, but some people wrote about the problem being in the antenna connection which is buried some where in the LH "C" pillar. I've never taken the time to pursue it. Try searching the internet, or possibly this sight.

Thanks guys,

Just a couple of questions;
1) Which is the LH "C" Pillar? I'm in Australia, so have the RH Drive version. Does this mean I should be looking at the RH "C" pillar?
2) What's the little 'brass strip'?

Cheers

A pillar is windshield, count and work back
C pillar is the back of the rear doors
Cars have no D pillar, a Wagon has a D pillar, the hatch

OK, thanks. So where is the antenna located?
Is it simple to get into the pillar?
What is the 'little brass strip' referred to previously?

Cheers

Can anyone give insight on how to remove the trim panel on the LH C pillar? mine has the SRS airbag stuff on the panel, and don't want to have any issues with that
