Refinishing Perfo Wheels

Well I was going to wait to post some photos but I just received these pics from the shop where my wheels are being refinished and couldn't wait. I was going to send these away to a wheel specialist but decided to stay local. The wheels are in good shape, straight and everything, they just have basic curb rash and I wanted a different color. The body shops I talked to didn't want to paint any wheels, hmmm... I know a good powder coating shop. They would love to do it for $50 each. I'm giving them a shot at it. We decided on a powder that will have a glossy, almost metallic look with no clear coat.

Here is what I have so far.

I should have the finished set of four wheels tomorrow. The color should be approximately Volvo Titanium but we did not attempt any color matching other than eyeballing a titanium center cap.

I picked up my wheels today and had the new tires mounted at the dealer. I am so lucky to have a decent dealer here. I figured I might get the quick lube dude but I got the VERY GOOD mechanic, Volvo and Benz certified. He let me wander around the lift and we visited while the parts runner was out getting more valve stems. I got some good pics of the underside of my V70XC, straightened a bent section of heat shield under the car, and found a worn brake line from when I had a hub replaced by an indy shop. The mechanic said what was clear to both of us, removing the caliper and rotating it one turn would fix it. I went to look at the rear end, heard an air tool. He had the caliper off and back on in nothing flat to fix how the brake line was coiled up and rubbing on the strut! And no, I didn't have to pay extra either.

Anyhow, here is the finished product.

The color doesn't look quite right here. Outside in the daylight without the flash it looks darker and does seem to be a good match with the titanium center cap


It looks like there is still some road rash but this is just remnants from tire mounting that wiped right off. This was taken just after leaving the shop and the wheel and tire have not been cleaned at this point

I think the car will look much better with window tinting. And I am Sooooooooo glad to have the Pirelli P6s off. They were noisy and rode very rough. I noticed immediately when I left the shop the smoother quieter ride of the Contis.

The wheels were powder coated at Industrial Coating Solutions in Billings Montana for $50 each. I spoke to Darrick the Manager. I am very pleased with the results.

Just in the interest of being thorough, here is the finished wheel after cleaning. What looked like rash from installing the tire is gone.

These wheels came out great looking. Never thought of putting Perfos on an XC, but that's a nice looking combination.

Great color! It matches the trim real nice.

That's a really amazing price. I was just calling around to try and find someone to sandblast my 16" Columbias, and the best price I found, at one shop in Queens for blasting only was $60 a wheel. Uggh.

Colin, try Evernu in Brooklyn. I've never done wheels there, but they have done a bunch of other custom stuff for me.

Very nice, PD. More sporty than the P2 XC70 wheels.

Whoa, bugleg, Evernu looks amazing. Shame I didn't find that a couple months ago.

I'm moving to Chicago on Friday morning, so I'll have to dig around and see if I can come up with something like that over there.
