There are several posts for timing belt in the repair database here. Here is another good post that outlines it very clearly without the comments you get in a thread: http://volvospeed.com/volvo_repairs_how ... hange.html

Ok sorry about all the questions.....I was thinking too much. I was worried about injector timing but if I'm not mistaken the injectors will be directed when to fire based on the cam shaft position sensor correct?

That's right, injectors get their cues from the cams via the CPS. Set the cam timing and you are good to go.

I plan to replace the belt, tensioner and pulley. I'm reading a lot about oem vs aftermarket. I see that there are quite a few places online to purchase, can someone suggest one?

thanks

Do NOT use aftermarket parts here.

I ordered my kit from FCP. Be sure to match it up to your engine number (found on the sticker on the timing belt cover).

I would do the simple kit - tensioner, tensioner pulley, and belt. You may wish to add on the Hepu water pump if you think you may keep the car even if it needs valve work.

That's great info thank you and I'll order it up today. Do you happen to know what the compression should be on this engine? Is there somewhere on the site I can find that type of info?

thanks again

In the neighborhood of 180-200 psi (it has a CR of 10.5:1).

I just got the chance to pull this all apart and noticed the exhaust cam seal, behind the timing belt, is leaking so I figured I would replace it while I have it torn apart. I assume I can pull the timing belt gear off and replace the seal? It appears the holes are slotted in the gear where the bolts go through to hold it to the cam though. Is this an adjustment? Should I mark these so when I put the gear back on I get it in the exact same spot where it was prior?

Thanks I appreciate the additional help

Yes, just take the gear off.

Those adjustments are to retard or advance timing, but just set it at the factory levels since youre not really tuning your car for power or anything. Mark everything before you take it off.
