Advice on buying 96' 960

Post by keepersboy »

Thought I would ask some advice about a used 960 I found. I have a 94 850 and a 98' v70, but have never had or worked on any of the older series cars. Found this 96' 960 for sale. looks to be in good shape 140k miles, no major repair work done, that the owner knows of, he's only had it for a year, and seems to know little about working on things, so I'm sure its been trouble for him to fix any of the little things that come up in a car this age. Over all, is this a good year car or will it be a time bomb, or an endless project. Any thoughts would be helpful. O yeah he's asking $2000 for it

95-98 960/S90/V90's are good cars.
They have a short list of pattern failures: front lower control arm rear bushings, two of the vacuum servos in climate system can leak, tendency to have front brake rotor caused brake vibration.
All are serviceable with the vacuum servos being the hardest to repair yourself.
140K miles is the interval for second timing belt change.
