Engine Shaking, Ready To Give Up On My S80

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

I have regular plugs coopers.. I replaced them long time ago.

So I unplugged each injector. Every one gave hesitation when disconnected.

Next step, check cylinder pressure???

I have a video with the engine running and I placed the camera on top of the engine so you can see how much it shakes. Is there any way that I can upload it here? Or can I show it to any of you ? Any volunteers? :)

Autozone has this 30 dollar compression test kit. How does that look??

If you say you have regular copper spark plugs that you replaced a long time ago, replace them again, with straight, basic Volvo plugs gapped at 26 or so, like boosted said. Allways start with the basics, and never assume that a one year old plug is still good.

Your boost problems wont affect your idle anyway, so its too seperate issues. Were the engine mounts ever replaced with those new high density poly mounts? They'll give you a shake at idle...

@Steve: thanks for the advice. I'll get new Bosch copper plugs today after work. Before installing them, I'll make sure they are gapped correctly and will also check compression in each cylinder. I'll take pics of what I find and post them here!

OoOoOkaaay people!!

I have news!! good news and bad news!!

Good News:
*Checked compression on each cylinder
From Left (passenger's side) to right (driver's side) :
-161
-160
-160
-160
-160
-164

*Replaced old sparkplugs because they really needed to be replaced!!
*New sparkplugs have correct gap .06- .08 !!

Bad News:
*Oil is leaking from one of the plugs whole. The last one to the right (driver's side) I think is cylinder #6??? Not sure.
* FREAKING ENGINE IS STILL SHAKING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everybody for the suggestions and ideas.
Now, what's next? COILS ???
I still have a check engine light on. I gotta go to my mechanic and get those codes pulled out again.
There's no ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED message so far. We'll see tomorrow when I put some miles on that sucker!

Please feel free to post more suggestions! This engine is giving me a bad headache!!!
By the way, I just changed the oil! Full synthetic and also checked all fuses in the engine compartment!

I have a video if anyone is interested. You can see how bad engine shakes.

I see those plugs have 'platinum' written on them. I believe there is a consensus that one should just use plain copper plugs. i.e. that platinums are other 'fancy' types of plug don't work well.
Where is the video?

Have you looked at the MAF sensor? I'm not familiar with the t6 version, some you can clean, others you can screw up if you touch the actual sensor inside.. If you can get your hands on a known working MAF and swap it out to test that would be best

Compression is nice, and even across all cylinders, which is important.

Did the new plugs help with the surging issue ?

I took a video from my iPhone. I don't think I can post it here. I'll try somewhere else and post the link here.

@steve: I did swapped a working MAF from a 2001 S80 T6 but no improvement at all. New plugs didn't help with the shaking.

There's still that hesitation when driving on the freeway at about 55-60mph.

I'm running out of ideas. I don't want to end up at a volvo stealership!! HEEELP!

That third coil pack is discolored, could mean that it is arcing and giving you your hesitation but not enough to throw a code. Is that the cylinder that is leaking?

@cmblackburn: it's not that kind of hesitation. It's the whole engine/block shaking. That's not the coil where oil is leaking. The one leaking is #6 (driver's side) I think. Not sure about the numbers but the last one to the right.

Any other ideas??

I take it you've checked the vaccuum lines? Sometimes you can trace a hiss or a whistle and find a cracked or disconnected line. Hard to hear with all the belts and stuff tho. You can slap a vaccuum guage in the T off the intake, but someone else will have to tell you what the correct values should be (i haven''t measured vaccuum since i got rid if my 77 chevy...)
