Should I buy a new 2006 S80?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Should I buy a new 2006 S80?

Post by tel1rrd »

I like the size and the look of the S80. I have concerns about the T5 motor pertaining to it's power and reliability. Some folks on the Edmunds forum have complained about fuel mileage being below 20 MPG even driving conservatively. I also drove the car at a local dealer and thought the engine was not as smooth as my current VW Passat V6. I was also a little disappointed with the handling, seemed like there was some noticable rear suspension dive during quick side to side transisions. Are any folks out there that have positive stories relating to the reliability of these cars or are they that bad. I like the saftey factor and the value it offers with the current discounts from Volvo, just wanted to here some of the owners feedback. Thanks.....

Sounds like you like German performance. Why leave?

The average VW has better handling (but probably not more power) than the average Volvo.

Of course you can always upgrade the suspension with parts from ipdusa.com and other vendors. Anti-sway bars will give it flatter cornering.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

I have always liked cars from Volvo and Saab. I never entertained purchasing them because they have been out of my reach financially. With the current discounts for the current S80, I have been reconsidering a purchase. But I didn't want to make a decision that I would regret as far a quality goes. Performance is a concern, but that is only one factor. Thanks for your feedback Matthew...

If you ask me, oh yes you must buy the new S80. Just take a good look at it. I'd say it's a masterpiece. From inside to outside just flawless. And the new engines - just excellent. So do it ;) I know that i'll will when my financial situation gets a little bit better. At the moment i'll enjoy my 2003 2.4T (147 kW) The next one will probably be 3.2 ;)
