Where should i get a paint job?

Post by GrandSpecter »

I bought my car a few months ago and the paint is in pretty bad shape, some of it is my fault and some simply because of the age of the car. I want a new paint job on it now, more of a restoration, i dont want a color change. Should i go for maaco since the damage doesnt seem to be much and i dont think the whole car will need to be resprayed.

These are the only two major blemishes in the paint the others are small chips.

See if the local community college would be interested in it as a project. It may be there for a few weeks but they won't let it leave without being perfect. As a bonus, some kids get to learn and you get a paint job next to free.

That's single stage paint, they'll redo it the same way for the sake of learning. Just about any shop will do bc/cc instead.

I just asked a body shop what he would charge to do my wagon (sight unseen) and he said anywhere from $3,500 to $5,000 mostly for labor. Maaco may charge a lot less and it's because they may not fill in any dents, grind down the rust, remove any of the rubber/plastic bits, etc. It's a lot faster & cheaper to cover a door handle than to remove it, but you may get a poor paint job in retun. Lot of options to think about.

I had a Honda painted at Maaco once. I did NOT choose the lower end but the next to top end and was very pleased with the job. My buddy went to the same location and got the cheap job and it's a mess.
