Both from the same gear and dropping the hammer.
A scan turned up P0101 MAF low signal. Sidenote -MAF was greased up by an AEM filter about 2000 kms ago. I cleaned it, ditched the AEM filter and since now has worked well enough- put back the a cone filter with 10,000 good kms on it.
I cleaned the MAF and things ran better on the way home.
Getting AFRs into the 13 and 12s on acceleration.
BUT...
When I hot started it tonight it struggled to come alive before idling kind of erratically (~640-675 RPM)
Checked the vac lines (except the turbo end of the red one. b#tch location) and they are fine.
Repeatedly struggles on startup. no codes. Struggles kind of worse with the MAF unplugged.
Usually for this car, you turn the key and BAM!! it comes to life and holds strong and rock solid.
The only difference is that we are in a 30+ Celcius heat wave right now. Very hot and very humid.
Earlier this week I floored it in 3rd and I heard what sounded like when you blow across the top of a beer bottle.
That was a new sound.
I'd be interested in hearing some ideas so that if I do have to take it to the dealer I know my
possible causes and they don't just sell me a new transmission
It's an 04 v70 2.5T (LTP) Autotech stage 2. 200K.
