'91 740 Belt Needs

Post by SkyVolvo »

Hey - I'm hoping to dive into a timing belt replacement job soon (on a '91 740 NA, 185k). I ordered this kit from FCP but wanted to replace the other belts while I was in there.

FCP offers just one Air Conditioning belt, which makes that simple enough, but has two Accessory Belts that supposedly fit my car. Since they appear to measure differently, I wanted to know which was which:

Volvo Accessory Drive Belt (740 760 780 940) Conti 11.9X1013

Volvo Accessory Drive Belt (740 760 780 940) Conti 11.9X1000

I have the crankshaft pulley holder tool, but if there are other things I should put in this order while I'm at it, I'd like to know.

Also, while working on the timing belt, I plan to follow the directions on stepbystepvolvo.com, which are very detailed and have lots of pictures. It seems great to me, but if anyone else has any favorite timing-belt how-tos, I'd love to take a look at them as this is a new project for me.

The longer belt (11.9mm x 1013mm) should be for the power steering.
