03 S80 Transmission Removal
03 S80 Transmission Removal
Hello all,
Tranny went on me for the 3rd time
. Short and sweet, can the 03 S80 transmission be removed without dropping the engine with it? Also, is there a place in the Phila. Pa area/internet that rents the special tools required to remove the tranny? Thanks for any help.

The engine has to be lowered a bit and tilted down on the trans end so the trans is lower than the frame. This is after the subframe is moved or removed to be out of the way.
Your equipment needs vary with whether you have a hoist or will be working on the floor. Jacked up on stands will require a tall floor jack and tall jack stands and a floor transmission jack.
On a hoist will require a standing trans jack.
Either way requires a engine support frame commonly used on front wheel drive cars.
I have no idea about what tool rental places have in PA.

Thanks Jimmy57,
I've since brought a new Genesis but I will always love my Volvo, despite the HUGE mistake Volvo made using that type (GM) of tranny. The T6 engine was awesome and hopefully I'll be able to run her again.
