Hello again,
So, my 87 740 GLE is making a a clunking noise from the front right (US passenger side) occasionally during large front suspension movements and sometimes just as it comes to a complete stop. As near as I can identify, its either the control arm bushing (frame end), control arm strut bushing (frame end) or, (and this is a little embarrassing) I may have neglected to include the spring washer (image attached see #5) during a recent replacement of the upper strut mounts/bearings.
If you look at the attached image it would be element number five in the diagram). I know I need to get this washer back in place but I no longer have it (if in fact, it is missing).
So, my questions are:
Would old hardened rubber in the mentioned bushings cause this intermittent clunk? And, where could I find just the "Spring Washer"? I have tried all the usual sources and have come up empty. To clarify, it doesn't really look like a washer. More like a stamped piece of metal that sits on top of the rubber spring cap in the strut assembly.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
Eric.
