I recently purchased the Draper reset tool for my '96 850 Turbo (later version) and am not having success. When I plug the tool in it automatically gives a green light before I put my key in the ignition. And when I remove my keys, the green light remains lit.
I have tried numerous DIP codes, per Draper Tech Support, and each time the green light blinks 10 times, stops and then repeats 10 more times. At the bottom of the instructions is the Note: Due to manufacturers updating their vehicle software, not all versions will work with this reset tool. This is the reason the Draper is failing to reset the ECU?
Also, since the last time Volvo dealer ran their diagnostics on my car, none of the dash lights have come on. Both the Service Light and CEL should have because my PNP needed to be replaced. This has now been replaced and thus I got the Draper to reset the computer codes.
Any feedback regarding why my dash lights haven't come on when they should've and is this impacting the effectiveness of the Draper?
Thanks,
Draper 69007 is not resetting computer codes

As far as I know all that tool does is reset the SERVICE ENGINE light
It is not a code reader per se and cannot read or clear CHECK ENGINE lights (CEL's).
I also don't think it will do a 96

PNP has no connection to the SERVICE light.
That light is simply a mileage based reminder.
It's not driven by anything but the odometer.
And in '96 to '98's it takes something special,
like a Draper or better, to reset that light.
IIRC, the Draper also resets SIPS.
For OBD ll codes, you'll need an OBD ll unit.
At the very least, a cheapie like this:
http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/121 ... ner-tool#0
And that's still only going to handle the generic engine and
emissions OBD ll codes supported by all US spec cars since '95.
The car also has OEM proprietary diagnostic systems as well.
You'll need Volvo specific diagnostic tools to deal with those.

Decent easy to use OBDII scan and reset devices are available on Amazon. I bought one for about $25 and keep it in my glove compartment. If I don't see a check engine light at least every two weeks, probably means the bulb burnt out

Well my car was running so poorly after changing numerous parts I decided to pony up the money and go to the dealer where I asked for the same tech who ran the diagnostics 9 months ago. This tech was also surprised that no codes were stored in the computer's memory.
He ran a fresh analysis, deleted (or reset) the computer and my car is performing like new!! Well, very nicely. As the car has over 260K, I am very pleased. The only issue outstanding is the ABS unit.
Sometimes it's worth the extra expense for the dealer service.
