Hello everyone.
I have a 1994 940 Turbo Wagon with 256900 miles on it. The local oil change shop says the rear differential fluid should be changed at some interval. As far as I know the diff has never had the fluid changed, or the seal broken on it.
What is the concensus? Do I do it as part of preventive maintenance or leave it as it is since it isn't supposed to be changed?
I haven't found a definitive source of information, that's why I'm asking here.
Thanks,
Greg

I did a fluid change on the rear diff of my '89 740 turbo afew years ago (around 2008) and you wouldn't believe how much water came out with the oil!! It was more like a frothy milkshake. It was likely the original oil and the car had 320,000kms which is less than yours.
Condensation occurs with all areas of the driveline and the differential is no stranger to this.
I would drain and fill at least every 5 years, but that's just me.

Thanks for the response precopster. I'll take it down tomorrow and have it drained and refilled. Did you drain yours out of the fill hole with suction pump attachment, or did you unbolt the entire back plate?
