It had an R chin spoiler, like mine (factory). It was the Volvo dark red/maroon color, so I know it wasn't a straight up R car, unless they made some in dark red. It was very pretty.
Or, the owner had the spoiler painted and mounted. Whatever the case, I wish I could've spoken to the driver. Alas, it was passing by, and I was on foot.
I saw an odd 855 yesterday

I saw these in sweden a few places and there were several around the Torslanda factory. I want one BAD!
I had a 95 960 destined to be the basis of one but I found out they suffer from structural problems when you lop off that much roof with the RWD.

Outstanding ^. Deleting the rear doors should buy you some rigidity back, right?

These vehicles are popular enough that companies make kits for several Euro wagons. They provide plans with cutting templates and aluminum checker plate panels for the beds.
In several European countries, at least Scandinavaian ones, they have a lower age driver license for "tractors". The vehicle has to have a certain features and be speed limited to fall in the "tractor" category. These wagon conversions using older cars and having manual trans with some blocking plate fitted to stop 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear selection and meets the rules. You don't see them in the city but in rural areas it is not unusual if you go to small secondary roads.. They have to have the slow moving vehicle triangle placards on them too.
