Vibration

Here's a puzzler for y'all:
I took the wheels (16 spoke TSW with big red lug) offa my 96 850R the other day to clean 'em. I used some Zylene to cut the heavy grease and your basic Mothers Car Wash and a Dremel to detail the rest. With the Dremel I used this stuff called Novus. It's a lightly abrasive polishing compound and boy! did it cut the brake dust. Anywho, I remounted each tire (didn't rotate 'em or anything) and torqued to 70 ft. lbs.
Here's the question: When I'm driving above 55 mph there is a strong vibration coming thru the steering wheel, what caused this?
I didn't take off any tire weights or drop the wheels at all.
Thanks in advance,
Chuck

My suspicion is that despite your efforts to counter it, somewhere one of the front wheels got a little bit lighter on one side. Sorry to state the obvious, but I'd be willing to bet that you tipped the balance by taking off some caked on brake dust (or maybe you got something in one of the nooks n crannies? polish compound?).

Good luck!

Willy,
Could it be that you might have spun one of the front rotors when the wheel is off? This may have slightly put off the balance because of minor variations in disk thickness.
