I have a local guy work on my 2004 XC90. He replaced my catalytic converter and in the process became concerned about what he felt was excessive play in the drive line where it connected to the transfer case. Does anyone know if a little play in the drive line when manipulated by hand is okay?
Also he went as far as to put a straw into the transfer case after rmoving the plug. There was no sign of any fluid. I went and purchased Haldex fluid from a local european dealer, but not knowing id there was a difference, I purchased both bottles as well as the option where the fluid is in what resembles a caulk tube. Are they the same? And if not which is the correct option for the transfer case?

Use Volvo Haldex fluid only in Haldex.
Transfer case angle gear and rear end gears can use any quaility gear oil. Last 100,000 miles have used Redline oil 75/90 gear oil in rear end and angle gear with great results.
