I purchased my 2000 S80 used in April 2001 through a Volvo dealer and the certified used program. Despite the fact that I have not moved my place of residence since then, I never received notfication from Volvo about the ETM recall.

Thanks to Don's information I got a copy of the submission form, sent in copies of the invoice for fixing my car's ETM (a second time, the first time was under warranty).

Last week I received a check for reimbursement. I'm not sure how they came up with the $740 they sent me, but it seems about right.

Anyway, here's my questions:

Any idea why Volvo never contacted me about this?

And will I have any trouble getting my dealer to upgrade the software?

1) The Volvo dealer you bought your used Volvo from was NOT DOING THEIR JOB. Well, DUH? They should have registered you as the new owner, a reputable dealer would have.

2) Software upgrade? Shouldn't be a problem, but since your dealer is NOT DOING THEIR JOB, they may deny or stall. Best be prepared with the proper document, available at www.VEXEDvolvo.org

3) Problems? Refusal? Contact Volvo Customer Service.
