Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.
I have this problem on the driver's side of a 2001 S40 so I got a new visor from the dealer. The wire with the electrical connector for the mirror light is about 12 inches long. It connects to the wiring harness too far down to pull out. Is there an easy way to take off the molding on the pillar to get to the connector without damaging the interior?
I suppose I could cut the wires and splice them together with wire nuts and electrical tape but I'd rather not.
The easist thing to do on my 98 S70 was to splice the wires in. On the S70 the wires get connected under the dash on the drivers side...a lot longer than 12". Nice thing about (u-pull it) junk yards, is you can see how things come apart before you nutz up your car!
You should use automotive crimp connectors for wire repairs. I guess wire nuts and electrical tape would work, but its not the norm
Remove the battery cable before you cut the wires to the visor. The vanity mirror is always hot, even with the key off. If the wires short out you will live in constant door chime hell until you fix it.
@ OzarkLee, I have done the unthinkable and I cut the wire to the sun roof without disconnecting the battery, and now I live in door chiming hell...how did you fix this problem/ do you know the answer to my riddle? I can't take another trip in that car!!!
