Droopy Sun Visor

Post by osmium »

The driver's side sun visor droops. Sort of annoying. I've tried a few things, but can't get it to stay up

I know I can get a replacement off ebay, but I'd like to try to fix it.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have never seen a proper fix. You could buy a strip of velcro and stick one side on the roof and the other on the visor???

CANNOT be fixed, you need to get a new (used) one.

I have done the Velcro fix, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! You can try it first before getting another one

I have this problem on the driver's side of a 2001 S40 so I got a new visor from the dealer. The wire with the electrical connector for the mirror light is about 12 inches long. It connects to the wiring harness too far down to pull out. Is there an easy way to take off the molding on the pillar to get to the connector without damaging the interior?
I suppose I could cut the wires and splice them together with wire nuts and electrical tape but I'd rather not.

Thanks,

Bill

The easist thing to do on my 98 S70 was to splice the wires in. On the S70 the wires get connected under the dash on the drivers side...a lot longer than 12". Nice thing about (u-pull it) junk yards, is you can see how things come apart before you nutz up your car!
You should use automotive crimp connectors for wire repairs. I guess wire nuts and electrical tape would work, but its not the norm

Ooooh, I'm going to have to do this too (on a 1999 XC70).

i'm thinking about embedding magnets in the visor and roof, and seeing how that works...

Remove the battery cable before you cut the wires to the visor. The vanity mirror is always hot, even with the key off. If the wires short out you will live in constant door chime hell until you fix it.

Just remove the chime, not sure if it is the same place on your model but this might help.

It isn't quite in the same place. In the 960 it is located under the glove box on the passenger side. My life is great since I ripped that sucker out :)
