Hi,

I need some help with my 93 240 wagon. I am new to Volvo's/troubleshooting my own car, so forgive me if I say anything stupid.

The car died on me a couple times, but upon a jump would run fine. Some googling led me to suspect an alternator issue, specifically the voltage regulator. I pulled the voltage regulator and the brushes were indeed worn down next to nothing. I replaced the regulator no problem.

The only issue I ran into was when I was taking the alternator out. The tensioner bolt broke while I was loosening it. The bolt was screwed into a block that was bolted to the tension arm (I think this is what it's called.) I've been able to find a new bolt, but I can't find the block that it screws into anywhere. Tried to use liquid wrench and tried to drill the broken bolt out with no luck. An image of this thing is here: http://imgur.com/Czg1b (couldn't get it small enough to fit here.)

Anybody know where I can get one of these? I tried doing this: but I don't think I got the proper tension as the belts had too much give.

Finally, I did jump the car with the aforementioned method of tensioning. It started fine, but died once the jumpers were removed. Is this evidence of the timing belts not being tight enough? Could it be something else?

When you put the new brushpack/regulator in often the engine needs to be revved for 30 seconds or so to get the brushes worn in enough to make contact. The other issue that afflicts those is bad ground wire. The alternator is rubber bushing mounted and has to have a ground lead from case to block.

I have that hardware, the long 6mm bolt and the block. $10 shipped.
