Lots of great reading in this site -- but I just want to be sure of something before buying a replacement part. Recently my car has been setting off the alarm -- and a really wimpy, feeble siren noise comes from the car when the alarm is triggered and the turn signal lights flash -- and nothing is near the car to trigger these 'false' alarms. My sunroof has been acting up as well. I have checked the alarm horn -- it works well, even though this wimpy sound does come from the car when the alarm is tripped? My PPC diagnostic tool gives me UEM 0004 (alarm) and UEM 0005 (sunroof) which seems to indicate that the alarm module is as fault.
I just want to confirm that even though the code suggests UEM, it really is pointing to the alarm module only? Right? I would not want to get a new alarm module only to later find that the UEM is partly at fault.
Only the replacement alarm module, right?
Many thanks

My 03 S60 had the same symptoms and found out thru this site that the alarm on these cars go bad because the batteries leak and corrode the PCB. I got the OEM alarm from Tasca and followed the tutorial available here. Problem solved. Spent less than $180. I read that you can replace the batteries but its a PITA to open up the alarm.
Sunroof misbehaves if the alarm module has failed, battery cables have corroded and disconnected from the circuit board, thus no signal is transmitted to the UEM. UEM uses signal from alarm module to operate sunroof and alarm system.
Replace the alarm module battery and you'll be good.

Bought new module, installed it, and all works just fine. Thanks for the advice through various threads.
I did take the old one apart -- the battery had leaked, and corroded one of the wires such that it was connecting intermittently. Cheers!
