2000 S80 T-6 runs rough

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 S80 T-6 runs rough

Post by Mundtquist »

Hi,

I have a 2000 S80 T-6 that is running rough and not developing full power. It has 200,000 miles on it and it is new to me. I bought CHEAP it from a friend of a friend who was going to donate it.

Symptoms:
-Runs like it is missing on one cylinder
-codes for misfire on cylinder #5 and all 4 02 heaters
-smooths out when I unplug the MAF

I have put in new plugs and a new coil on #5 without success. I have swapped in a MAF from a good running S80 T-6 without success.

My thought is that it is a bad MAF and that the bad MAF is causing the misfire and 02 codes. However, I am not sure and I hate to spend $200 unnescessarily.

Your thoughts?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve, you may need a new ETM. I had this problem with my 2000 S80 T6 before. I changed MAF and it drove fine for a while then the problem came back. I finally cleaned the ETM and the problem went away. Check to see if it ever had the software update. Next will be cleaning the ETM. There are posts on here on how to clean the ETM. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you'll need to buy a new ETM or a rebuilt. It's fairly easy to remove the ETM too.
