Stuttering acceleration from S40 turbo.

Post by kevoinidaho »

OK...a new issue that I have found on my "as is", salvage yard, S40 purchase. It is a 2001 with an automatic transmission and while I was out on a state road (speed limit 65), I was forced to pass a slow moving vehicle ahead of me. The turbo was slow to kick in and when it tried to, it "stuttered"for awhile before kicking in. There is a "check engine" light on on the dashboard and I have not researched how to find the error codes yet. The check engine light would start to blink as the turbo tried to kick in and then stopped later, well after I was able to pass. Normal acceleration seems to be unaffected but I have noticed a small amout of the same symptoms to a lesser degree durning normal acceleration. Lately the weather is starting to cool a little bit and this problem seems to be present only after initial warm-up. I did replace the air intake filter when I brought it home. If someone could suggest a link to find out how to diagnose my error code and a possible cause for the uneven turbo acceleration, I would be grateful for the help, I am poor and unemployed so I have to do what I can by myself. Thanks. :?

Blinking check engine light means a misfire.

Go to any major auto parts store and have the codes read from the OBDII port (it's free!) Let us know what they say, and then we can help...besides that, we're just throwing guesses at you.
