V50 2.0D 2005 struggles on inclines

Post by lorry33 »

Hi all,

My V50 2.0D 2005 is losing its kick, going up hill I'm dropping RPM's averaging between 1500 2000 and no boost . As soon as the road levels out I get the kick from the turbo and all seems normal. It generally struggles at the slightest incline and seems to take an age to get the turbo to kick in on a flat even road.

Checked the vacume pipes from the boost solenoid on the side of engine and the hose which goes under the engine(from the solenoid) was a little gunked up. I cannot see exactly where its connected to as its a right pain to get to, it seems to go under the 2nd boost solenoid which is located down below the fuel filter and alternator is.

I also found a little split in the plastic pipe from the air filter going to the back of the engine(looks a pain to replace) i have temp fixed this but would need replacing.

I ran my OBD2 scanner and it brings up these errors.

C302 -
P0047 TURBO/SUPER CHARGER BOOST CONTROL SOLENOID CIRCUIT LOW
P2263 TURBO/SUPER CHARGER BOOST SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

Hope all this makes sense

Regards
Laurie

Check the fuel filter and any hoses from tank up to filter. The system sucks through those hoses and there will not be a liquid leak out usually, just sucks air and starves engine for fuel. Is it taking longer to start than normal? cranks over several round before it runs?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. It starts first time, no issue starting the car it's just the lack of boost, i can just about hear the turbo in low gears so dont think its the turbo. Today I was driving along an 'A' road at around 55mph then approached a hill and in 5th gear it dropped down to 30mph even with my foot to the floor, dropped down to 4th gear and all that does is stop it from dropping even slower. Then once at the top of hill on a fairly flat road it picks up and kicks in.

Cheers

Those codes can set from low boost regardless of reason. Fuel filter is the easy and most likely cause.

Sorry i forgot to mention that I did replace the fuel filter thinking it may of been that, a friend of mine changed it and kind of primed it. So not sure what to do next apart from take it to Volvo and shell out tons of £££££

Have checked all other hoses and they look ok. The only thing I Have not changed is the oil filter
