04 V70 2.5t alarm siren/module question?

Post by mandomex1 »

Hello, I have a 2004V70 2.5t with 90,000 miles. I have had a string lately of limp mode episodes with my wagon and various warnings on dash. The only one that stays constant is "check srs warning".

I took it to my independent shop to run a diagnostic and he says I have a list of codes in engine ,ABS, SRS,dash central and upper computers.

He claims this is being caused by a short to the siren module and can be replaced and computer reconfigured to the tune of $700.00. I'm not doubting the guy but just looking for a second opinion if that sounds correct? (He claims the reason for all the codes is the short in the alarm is freaking out all the other systems.)

I haven't had any starting issues, just the occasional warnings flashing and then goes into limp mode.

I've read that I can replace the module myself and it doesnt really need a system reconfiguration.

Thanks for any input or suggestions.

Have him unplug the siren and then run it a few days to see if nothing more than the alarm reduced function message happens.

Better yet, pull the fuse to the siren module and see what happens.

Cheers,

You can replace the alarm yourself. I got mine from Tasca for $158+. The battery inside the alarm leaks and corrode the PCB and all sorts of problems would come out. Go to the repair database on top and look for siren module replacement w/c gives you a step by step replacement procedure. Do it yourself to save big $ for other maintenance items due very soon on you car.

I did come across the page with the DYS on the alarm module. It looks straight forward and simple to replace.

My concern was that would the faulty/shorted module cause the erratic behavior and occasional limp mode?
Thanks!

I have not seen a siren cause exactly what you are seeing but anyone who claims to know all failure modes of a Volvo or any car with a full networked electrical system is likely to have to take back their claims. Disconnecting alarm module to eliminate it as cause, especially if you can do that yourself, is the low cost way to get an answer.
