car stops while idling
I have an S70 that recently started stalling while the car was idling. I took it to two different service centers who did not discover any code issues and could not find anything wrong. One thought it might be the fuel pump relay which was replaced last week and the problem worsened. I would appreciate any feedback or thoughts as to what might be the issue. This has been a great car otherwise.

Does it just shut off immediately for seemingly no reason, or slowly choke, sputter, and die?

It sputters a bit and then the red arrow flashes in the code window (indicating transmisson but no transmisson code) and then it stops. Sometimes it restarts immediately but lately it takes multiple attempts to restart.

Try disconnecting the MAF sensor and see if it runs less badly.
Usually they throw a code, but it's an easy test.

I've had this happen on two different 850's for two different reasons. Since you took it to a mechanic with the symptoms i'm guessing they would have checked what I'm about to say but i'll leave it anyway.
On my 5spd 850 it would stall any time I took it out of gear, but ran fine when in gear. This was due to a tear in one of the intake tubes...taped it up and I was good to go.
The second was on my 850R automatic, where my car would stutter and stall at a stop light. This was due to a hose that had popped off my IAC(idle air control)valve. I'm sure if there was a tear in one of the IAC hoses it might have the same effect. The reason it popped off was due to improper re installation on my part after cleaning the unit which was very dirty(very easy job, a lot of carb cleaner and shaking did the trick). I put the hose back on and it was fine. I think in both cases by dash lights flickered.
Both cases were due to an air leak and the engine not getting the right air/fuel mixture at idle, causing the stutter and stall.
Good luck.

Thanks for both responses. I'm not certain if either of these were checked but will ask THE mechanic and hope either of these suggestons will provide the solution. I really appreciate your time to post a response!
