Hi folks, owners, DIYers and pros! I'd like to get knowing anyone dedicated, interested to locally know each other around Raleigh, NC so we can meet-up locally and enjoy sharing experience in taking care, servicing our automobiles.
Short intro is great:
I'm software engineer working in Triangle Park and volvo DIYer: previously owned 1983 D240; 1990 740-turbo; 1996 850.
Went broke out of job for too long, Got offer in Raleigh, NC; sold 850 to get money for moving and boght 1999 V70 XC $1400(after getting tired of riding a bicycle for a while at over 100F) that needed EVERYTHING, but was running and providing slow commute to and from work.
So Far worke done:
Timing Belt-Water Pump replaced DIY;
Re-gasketed transmission oil pump partially DIY;
Alternator replaced DIY;
Climate control recharged and fixed compressor DIY;
Original 15" rims/tires replaced with 215/60/16 as part of a great deal to purchase all 4 rims with good tires.
Struts, stabilizer bars, tie-rods replaced partially DIY.
So Far To Do:
Driver side front wheel hub;
PCV system cleaning or replacement;
replace most of the vacuum and water lines;
Still spending time to bring it to stage 0 slowly day by day.
Dedicated to Volvo for safety, reliability and performance vs. other available vehicles.

Hey there!
My parents live over in Durham and I visit every now and then. I've now moved to the DC area. If you want help with the PCV system, I'd definitely work with you to schedule a time to come down and spend a day working on it.
My brother will be there for the rest of this year (through next summer) before going off to school; I'm sure both of you could benefit from each other's help keeping these old things going. Heaven knows that old S70 needs something fixed every month...

That's good to know. I work in RTP and live in Garner. I dont have alot of time w/ a 3yr old and a pregnant wife, but I'll do what I can. I've got a 94 850 wagon, and so far have done my alt, CTS, plugs, and little stuff here and there.
I still need to do my timing belt, pcv, pass axle, and what sounds like a noisy driver-side wheel bearing. Oh and clean my window switches, fix oil leaks, change tranny fluid, etc, etc...
Nice to meet you...........

Hey man, I'm in Durham. I've got Justin's old S70 T5 and it gets me around where I need to go.A local meet up sounds great! We have those for the BMW 2002 group I'm a member of.
I've done: timing belt, power steering pump, brake bleeding, transmission shitlock override deletion, seat removal and repair of the electric tracks, dash removal, A/C system repair, blower motor overhaul, console removal, parking brake adjustment, plugs, switches (I rebuild the switches and remove that crummy rubber coating and replace the bulbs), radio disassembly and belt/light replacement, water pump, trans fluid, serpentine belt, tensioners, EVAP system, wires, dizzy overhaul, pcv system and a whole lot of other things here and there.
We should all get together and change my evaporator, it's not gonna last next summer (recharged it twice this summer, albeit with ollies $6.88 cans of 134a)

Well, I've got a "runway" as a driveway and plenty of tools and goodies from Harbor Freightmrwillie wrote:Nice to meet you!!! We'll have to figure out a time that works for most folks and have a repair day or something. Working in the driveway alone gets old sometimes.
Literally, you could fit like 15 cars at least in our driveway front to back.
Repair days are great, we have those for 2002s! My buddies helped me figure out a clutch for some beer and pizza

I'm a little further west in Salisbury, but traveled to Durham and meet both the Blackburn Brothers. Mom makes a fine lunch.
I head to Cary every once in a while to visit family and can make a trip at some point. Fighting with a heater core right now and it has won the first battle. New parts coming this week and round two starts on Saturday.
He's right about the Blackburn runway. Can hold a lot of Volvo"s.
