9/21/2012 EDIT - I changed the title to something more appropriate
I did the rubber glove test on my 99 S70GLT with 118K miles. The glove inflated,
so I decided to check the banjo bolt on the pass side of the intake manifold. I removed the
ps pump and moved the alternator out of the way.
The picture shows:
1- short coolant hose (very soft, should be replaced)
2- rubber hose with open end, attached to nothing
3- another rubber piece attached to nothing
(Somewhat) easy PCV fix on my 99 S70GLT

I removed the rubber piece marked 3. It looks like the vac hose
from the oil trap to the nipple at the vacuum source broke.
I can feel the head of the banjo bolt underneath.

With the alternator out I could remove the banjo bolt. It was clean,
as was the nipple. This pic shows how the coolant is routed around
the banjo fitting to keep the vapors warm and less likely to clog.
I also removed the soft coolant hose. Next step is to get new vacuum
hose and heater hose. That should restore the vacuum to the pcv
system and then I will recheck with the rubber glove test.

I replaced the broken vac hose with a length of 3/16 fuel line from
the auto parts store. They did not have 3/16 vac hose. And the 7/32
vac hose they had was much thinner walled than what I had in the
car. The fuel line is the same wall thickness and OD as what was in
the car.
I replaced the soft coolant hose with a length of 3/8 heater hose. I
soaked the hose in hot water to soften it a little so I could get it on
the pipes. Even with that I had to use more force that I wanted to use
to bend the hose but nothing broke, fortunately.
I did not want to use the old hose and the hose is not sold as a separate part,
only with the complete $150 pcv assy. There is a little kink at the top fitting,
but I think it will be ok, but I will be checking for leaks.
I got it all together and did another glove test. There is now vacuum
at the oil filler - SUCCESS!

would a '98 V70 LPT have this same jumble? I have a persistent P0171 and have been told to check a line that I think is in this area.

99 was the first year that had coolant running around the banjo bolt.rmmagow wrote:would a '98 V70 LPT have this same jumble? I have a persistent P0171 and have been told to check a line that I think is in this area.
So the 98 has a somewhat different pcv system.
Even with the broken vacuum hose, my car never had a CEL.
