Battery lifespan depends on how u drive the car.
For cold weather use, 6 months sounds like a reasonable lifespan especially if battery has been deep cycled.
tips,
1) keep battery fluid to recommended level.
2) Every time start up car, try to drive or run engine at least 20 minutes.
3) Do not use electrical items with engine off. (i.e radio, leave door open, reading lights etc.
4) use battery with correct rating Most Volvos need at least 600 CCA (cold cranking amperes)
5) do not turn ignition for more than 5 seconds at a time. Rest at least 10 seconds b4 the next 5 second start up attempt.
Hope this helps in extending your next battery life for more than 6 months. Anyway anything more than 6 months is bonus. My current battery is 27 months old and still going strong by following all the above tips.
