Leather steering wheel cover is toast!

Post by tboothe33 »

Where can I get a new leather steering wheel cover for my 99 XC70? It's tan color. It had a little ding in it, let my daughter have the car for a couple months and she picked it all apart. Now like 3 inches of it are missing and there is no way to fix it, so I'd like to replace it. Not sure where I can find a good priced cover and I'm also not sure how to remove the one that is on there and replace with the new one. I'm in Northern VA. Can someone give me a clue on this?

Thanks. 8)

I replaced the wheel on my '99 V70 because the grip was loose and I found a good one on eBay. Not too difficult to replace. There are 2 torx behind the wheel to release the airbag pad. Then scribe a scratch on the old wheel across the splined stud before removing so you can centre the new one. Disconnect battery of course as you will not want a SRS code.

Isn't there anything that could be wrapped around the steering wheel without making it too fat or slippery?

I agree with finding a replacement from the salvage yard however they typically want to sell the entire steering column which is well over $100. I recently saw replacement wrap on the FCP groton website I believe.

I also wanted to add a note about my steering wheel which was in horrible shape however the leather was intact. I purchased leather dye and made the wheel and seats look almost like new. I can't say enough about how happy I am with the interior after redying almost everything.
Good Luck
