I've done the heater core! If you have any questions, let me know. It's a pain to get under there without damaging it.

Good to meet you, Obayha.......

I'm trying to ignore my heater core, but I smell coolant every now and again. My P/S pump is begging for attention now. It makes enough noise to sound like a exhaust leak while the car is running. Does anyone know if the 1994 power steering pump takes atf or p/s fluid? If heard it both ways...

Try to take care of that before it gets too bad. I removed the return line and drained it into a small aluminum catch pan in my 98- I also replaced the pump as it failed 30 miles from home. If it locks up completely you risk popping a belt- serp or timing, though timing is highly unlikely.
On a 98 I used cheap Pennzoil ATF. Should be the same up until 99 when they changed the pump to that funky new style.
The innards of mine fell apart. I picked one up at the LKQ in Clayton for $40 with a $20 core. (from a 40,000 mile 98 V70 GLT)- Poor car didn't belong there.

The damage has been done. Just glad it ain't a fish. With all the fins I smashed, it would swim in circles.

Hey folks! Did you try head gasket conditioner Blue Devil to add onto the expansion reservoir before diggin' onto the heat core?
That's what I plan to do prior gettin' there with heat on and open windows while it's not cold and hot.

Nah, not big on additives in the coolant, or oil- or any system except for stop leak in the A/C system. It's easier to worry about changing the heater core once vs. gumming up your whole cooling system with crap that solidifies in it.

Agree with that, except for the part about changing heater core once. . I figured the only way to get good at something is to do and to repeat as many times as needed until you get it right.

Even ones doin' it on the daily routine may do the damage...
